⛏️ DePIN and Mining
DePIN is often compared to mining because in both cases a person connects equipment to a network and receives a reward. But their economic meaning is different.
In classic Proof-of-Work mining, equipment cycles through mathematical combinations to support coin issuance and confirm transactions. Its income heavily depends on the coin’s price, network difficulty, and electricity costs.
In DePIN, the equipment performs useful paid work. Graphics cards and processors compute tasks for AI and graphics, storage devices store data, internet channels transmit traffic, and sensors collect information from the physical world.
Therefore, DePIN should be approached as a business endeavor: assess demand, compatibility, costs, workload, and the rules of the chosen platform. There is no instant income button here, but there is a clear opportunity to start small and scale the direction that proves its economics.
Mining sells participation in coin issuance and protection. DePIN offers the market real work of physical equipment.
